As part of the Tahoe Basin Forestry Service forest fuel reduction program, on January 6th, crews from the Forest Service began a series of controlled burns in the forestry-managed areas surrounding Glenbrook. GHOA management notified Glenbrook homeowners by broadcast e-mail prior to the burns to insure that alarmed homeowners did not contact the fire department. Crews managed areas where controlled burns were underway and if winds were predicted, all burns were extinguished to avoid unplanned fires.
It was unnerving for Glenbrooks yea round residents to see flames in the forests above the community and see smoke rising from several areas as the burns progressed.
GHOA and GCTA associations and all Glenbrook homeowners have been at the forefront of communities in the Tahoe Basin in the critical forest fuel reduction programs by thinning the peripheral, GHOA owned, forests and cooperating with fire safety officials to remove combustibles from the areas around homes in Glenbrook. |
