SS Tahoe under steam (23056 bytes)Passengers disembarking at pier (16970 bytes)In 1906 the Glenbrook Inn opened its doors to accommodate the new tourist trade.   The Inn itself was composed of two former hotels, Lakeshore House and Jellerson House, together with new construction and parts of the old general store.  Most of the guests of the Inn arrived via steamer from Tahoe city, California after a short journey by train from the Southern Pacific Railway station in Truckee to the Tahoe tavern.   From 1906 until 1975, Glenbrook was an exclusive summer resort for people from all over the United States.
